Donations for 2010
Since a few years I have a tradition to donate a small percentage of my yearly income to Open Source projects. Over the years I have refined my thoughts about it and what I want to archive with it. To keep the overhead low and to reach the correct people with that donation I prefer to directly donate to the people. What is also important to mention is that it is always meant as a "Thank you for your great work" so it is not connected to any requirements. I usually take a few moments at the end of the year to think about what was archieved in the last year and had a big impact on my work or to what I think is important for FreeBSD.
So without further ado my donation for 2010 goes to Hans Petter Selasky for his extraordinary work on webcamd which enables FreeBSD to use modern DVB-S/C/T USB devices and webcams. This makes FreeBSD a viable platform for Home Theater PCs and improves our multimedia support.
Thanks a lot Hans for your great work!

Kleines Dankeschön an VirtualBox
Einige kennen meine OpenSource Spenden ja schon. Diesmal hat es Alexander Eichner und Knut St. Osmundsen von VirtualBox erwischt. Sie haben es ermöglicht, dass VirtualBox auch unter FreeBSD läuft und deshalb habe ich beiden einen 30cm Beastie und ein BSD T-Shirt von ixsoft als kleines Dankeschön zukommen lassen.
Ich spende bereit seit einigen Jahren einen gewissen Prozentsatz meines Einkommens an Personen und Projekte im OpenSource Umfeld. Es gibt sehr viele gute Leute die außerordentliche Arbeit in OpenSource Projekten leisten und sich ein kleines Dankeschön wirklich verdient haben. Genau solchen Personen möchte ich mit dieser kleinen Spende unkompliziert und direkt helfen - ohne Verwaltungsgebühren und Hintergedanken.
Nachahmung ist ausdrücklich erwünscht.

FreeBSD 6.1
Heute oder spätestens morgen sollte die Release Ankündigung für FreeBSD 6.1 rausgehen denn die ISOs sind bereits auf einigen Mirror Servern verfügbar. Außerdem habe ich soeben wie man sieht 100 Euro an die FreeBSD Foundation Inc. gespendet um den Entwicklern rund um FreeBSD ein wenig zu helfen. Sie leisten da wirklich erstaunliches und das ist es mir allemal wert.
Auch OpenBSD hat vor einigen Wochen gemeldet, dass sie finanzielle Probleme haben also habe ich mich dazu entschlossen OpenBSD 3.9 als CD zu kaufen. Ich nutze zwar das OS nicht aber sie haben einige sehr gute Subprojekte wie OpenSSH und OpenNTPD und arbeiten eng mit FreeBSD zusammen also bin ich auch gerne OpenBSD ein wenig behiflich.
